May 2, 2023 (MESQUITE, Texas) – Thrive Pet Healthcare, a first-of-its-kind veterinary healthcare network with about 400 locations across the U.S., will host a grand opening at Mesquite’s first urgent care veterinary clinic at 1600 Gross Road on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon.
According to
data from the U.S. Census, about half of all households in the Dallas-Fort Worth area own a pet. In fact, the Metroplex ranks third in the country among major metro areas for dog ownership, with an estimated 1.2 million households having at least one dog.
Thrive Pet Healthcare Mesquite Urgent Care is addressing the community’s need for timely veterinary care for injuries or illnesses that are not severe enough to require emergency treatment but cause enough pain or discomfort that can’t wait to see a primary veterinarian.
Modeled after human urgent care, the Mesquite urgent care clinic provides outpatient, same-day services for sick pets that require prompt access to a veterinarian, but do not have critical or life-threatening conditions that require surgery or hospitalization. Clinic hours are noon to 10 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays. Starting May 7, the clinic will also be open every other Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
“Pets don’t always get sick or injured at a time when it’s convenient to see your primary care veterinarian and some conditions don’t warrant a visit to an ER,” said Thrive Pet Healthcare Mesquite Urgent Care Practice Manager Traci Boyd. “Our walk-in urgent care clinic in Mesquite bridges the gap between your family veterinarian and an emergency hospital by providing timely outpatient care that is often more affordable compared to an ER visit.”
Some examples of pet behaviors or symptoms that may benefit from urgent care include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, eye or ear infections, fever, allergic reactions, itching, lumps, limping, minor wounds or injuries, or the ingestion of minimal toxins or a foreign object.
In conjunction with their grand opening festivities on May 6, Thrive Pet Healthcare Mesquite Urgent Care will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. followed by a demonstration from K-9 Ferris of the Mesquite Police Department at 10 a.m. Local pet owners will also have an opportunity to meet the staff, tour the facility, visit with adoptable pets, and enter for a chance to win prizes.
The clinic is staffed by Drs. Leslie Garibay and Hilary Chambers.
Dr. Garibay completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University. She has a special interest in small animal surgery, general practice and urgent care.
Dr. Chambers completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University. She has previous emergency medicine experience and has a special interest in neurology, cardiology and urgent procedures.
Thrive Pet Healthcare has opened 20 urgent care facilities across the country in the last two years to accommodate patients' needs for same-day care in non-life-threatening situations. Urgent care is now available in standalone locations, as an expanded service offering in existing primary care hospitals, and as an add-on facility.
The Mesquite urgent care clinic is one of Thrive Pet Healthcare’s 20 cohesively linked primary, specialty, urgent and emergency hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The unique local network (or ecosystem) allows hospitals to quickly share medical records and refer patients to network veterinary providers to meet every healthcare need throughout the pet’s life.
Although urgent care is a walk-in service, pet owners are encouraged to check the availability of the urgent care team at Mesquite by calling the clinic at (972) 270-5404.
