SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Aug. 18, 2025) — Pet owners in San Antonio now have access to a powerful new option in the fight against pet cancer.
PetCure Oncology has expanded its stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) services to San Antonio. It will be co-located with
Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists San Antonio, which moved to a new 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility last year.
PetCure Oncology offers advanced radiation therapy that can treat cancer in just one to three sessions, compared to the typical 15 to 20 sessions of conventional radiation therapy. This technology precisely targets tumors, minimizing harm to surrounding healthy tissue and reducing the need for anesthesia, which enhances the quality of life for pets and their families. This shorter treatment course is particularly advantageous for senior pets or those with tumors in sensitive areas like the brain, spine, or lungs.
“Radiation therapy used to be hard to access for pet families in San Antonio. Now, they don’t have to leave the city to pursue this option,” said Medical Director at Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists San Antonio, Dr. Leslie Bauer, “Having PetCure’s stereotactic radiation therapy on-site gives pets access to a cancer treatment that’s highly effective and less disruptive to their quality of life.”
The integration marks PetCure Oncology’s 9th location nationwide and supports their growing reach under the Thrive Pet Healthcare network. Since 2015, PetCure Oncology has treated more than 9,500 pets with radiation therapy.
“We’ve treated thousands of pets across the U.S., and each one represents a family that had more time with their companion because of this technology,” said Thrive Pet Healthcare’s National Director of Radiation Oncology and PetCure Oncology Medical Director Dr. Neal Mauldin. “We’re pleased to offer this life-extending care to more pets and families in San Antonio.”
PetCure Oncology now offers radiation therapy for certain chronic inflammatory conditions in pets, using a low dose of radiation to relieve pain in cats with severe Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) when standard options fail. This non-invasive treatment may also benefit conditions like stomatitis, rhinitis, and osteoarthritis. Side effects are rare, and most pets tolerate it well.
PetCure Oncology’s treatment plans are developed by a team of board-certified radiation oncologists, working closely with each pet’s broader veterinary care team. Most appointments are made by referral from a family veterinarian.
