The microchip implant is about the size of a grain of rice and is administered like a vaccine with potentially no pain to little pain for your pet.
The microchip has a unique ID number that is registered with your information, like phone number, home address, email, and emergency contacts.
When your pet receives their chip at a Thrive Pet Healthcare location, it will automatically register your information.
If your pet is ever lost, a veterinarian or rescue center will pass a reader over their microchip. The unique number registered to your pet will populate and provide your contact information so your pet can be safely returned home.
Stop by one of our locations to get an auto-registered microchip for your beloved pet that can be read anywhere in the world.
Registering your microchip is just as important as getting the microchip. By tying vital contact information to the microchip, those who find your pet can return them home safely, so at Thrive, we auto-register the microchip to make it simple and easy.

Keep Contact Information Up to Date
It’s important to keep your pet’s microchip registration information up to date to ensure your contact details are correct. Without your current phone, email, or home address information, those who find your pet may be unable to get in touch.

Remember, a Microchip is Not a GPS
A microchip is a permanent ID tag, not a GPS device to locate your pet when lost. It’s a way to identify your pet if they’re found, especially if their collar or tag has fallen off.

Microchip FAQ
It's important to get your pet microchipped, but just as important to understand how it works. Below are some of the more common questions about microchips!
While some shelters or clinics include microchipping with adoption, some pets have already been microchipped. Most veterinary clinics have microchip scanners, and your veterinarian may be able to scan your new pet and inform you.
Most of our Thrive Pet Healthcare partner clinics can microchip your pet! It's important to check by calling into your veterinarian - some clinics may not microchip, but may scan for microchips.
Once your pet has been microchipped, all you need to do is register the microchip ID and keep your contact information up to date! If you notice any abnormalities in the spot where your pet was microchipped, contact your veterinarian.
If your pet receives an additional microchip, it just means you need to keep the contact information for both microchip IDs up to date.
