Does my pet have a fever?
Because our companions can often run hot due to hair, sunlight, or any other causes, it's important to take note of the side signs of a fever. These include:
Red eyes
Lethargy
Warm ears or nose
Shivering
Coughing
Vomiting
Lack of appetite
What causes my pet to have a fever?
Normally, fevers are associated with an infection or inflammation. Like humans, their body warms up attempting to fight them off. These internal and external causes could include:
Ingestion of materials poisonous to dogs, including toxic plants and human foods or medications, can also cause fevers.
Additionally, it's not uncommon for your pet to experience a fever a day or two after their vaccination - any longer than that, and a trip to the urgent care or primary care veterinarian for a sick / illness visit is due!
How will the veterinarian diagnose my pet's fever?
When you bring in your pet, your veterinarian will perform blood tests and examinations for cuts, scrapes, bites, or injuries. They'll also ask a serious of questions regarding their activity levels, diet, and recent issues - it's important to be honest regarding these answers to help your veterinarian diagnose the issue.
