With summer’s arrival comes hurricane season, extreme heat as well as intense storms. As severe weather events become more common everywhere, it’s essential to have an emergency preparedness plan in place for your pets as well as your family. Dr. Tony Coronado, Thrive Pet Healthcare's National Director of Emergency Services and Urgent Care
appeared on The Weather Channel to share the following tips on keeping your pet safe and well in the event of a hurricane:
Stay up-to-date on pet vaccines: Many evacuation shelters and boarding kennels require current vaccination records in order to admit pets.
Pack a pet go-bag: Include essentials like ID collars, medications, food, clean water, sanitation items and a travel crate.
Check microchips: Contact your vet to ensure your pet’s RFID chip is registered and has current contact information.
Keep pets calm: Pets can pick up on our stress and anxiety, but bringing along their favorite bedding, treats, or toys can help comfort them.
Hurricanes and other severe storms can be stressful for pet owners to navigate, but the right planning can go a long way to ensure your pets stay safe and healthy.
