Do you accept pet insurance?
Yes—most Thrive hospitals work with a wide range of pet insurance providers, and many plans can help reimburse eligible veterinary expenses for accidents, illnesses, diagnostics, medications, and more. While we’re happy to provide invoices and medical records for any insurer, some providers offer features that can make the experience easier for pet parents. For example:
Trupanion Offers:
No payout limits: Trupanion policies are known for unlimited payouts with no annual or lifetime cap—meaning coverage doesn’t stop once you hit a dollar threshold.
Direct payment to your vet: In many cases, Trupanion can pay your veterinarian directly at checkout, reducing the amount you must pay out of pocket at the time of service.
Stable pricing: Trupanion does not use “birthday pricing”—your premium doesn’t automatically increase simply because your pet gets older.
Pumpkin Offers:
Comprehensive covered conditions: Pumpkin plans often cover a range of conditions—including dental illnesses, behavioral issues, hereditary conditions, and prescription foods—without requiring extra add-ons.
Flexible annual limits & multi-pet discounts: Pumpkin offers a variety of annual coverage options (from modest to high limits) and a multi-pet discount for each additional pet enrolled.
Claims simplicity & coverage of common fees: Pumpkin’s plans include coverage for veterinary exam fees for accidents and illnesses, and the claims process is handled digitally and straightforwardly.
You are always free to choose the insurance provider that best fits your needs and budget.
How pet insurance typically works
You pay for your pet’s care at the time of your visit (though some pet insurance companies are able to review, approve and remit payment within minutes)
You submit a claim to your insurance provider (usually online or through an app)
Your insurer reimburses you based on your policy’s coverage, deductible, and limits
Helpful tips when choosing pet insurance
When evaluating plans, consider:
What conditions are covered (accidents, illnesses, surgeries, and more)
Waiting periods and exclusions
Reimbursement rates and annual limits
Whether wellness or preventive care is included; or pair pet insurance with a wellness membership program like Thrive Plus
How claims are submitted and processed
If you’re considering pet insurance, your veterinary team can help you understand how it may fit into your pet’s care—but coverage decisions are always between you and your insurance provider.
