New veterinarians receive hands-on education and training like none other LAS VEGAS—
Viticus Group, a leading provider of continuing education for veterinary and medical healthcare professionals worldwide, proudly announces its 15 recipients of the Dr. Jack Walther Recent Graduate Boot Camp Scholarship.
The boot camp, held at Viticus Group education centers in Las Vegas, is an interactive course from June 5 to 7 for newer veterinarians who are zero to five years out of school. The scholarship covers registration fees, hotel accommodations, meals and onsite transportation for each recipient; travel expenses to and from Las Vegas are not included.
This year's boot camp will focus on providing small group lectures and hands-on instruction in dentistry, dermatology (cytology), and soft tissue surgery.
“We’re thrilled to award these 15 scholarship recipients,” said Dr. Tony Pease, chief veterinary medical officer, Viticus Group. “Their ambition to elevate the veterinary profession and provide the highest quality patient care is a direct correlation to the dedication that Dr. Jack Walther exemplified.”
Thrive Pet Healthcare, a first-of-its-kind veterinary hospital network with 400 locations across the U.S., has supported this unique opportunity for three consecutive years.
“The landscape of veterinary medicine today can be intimidating for new grads because the expectations placed upon practitioners are greater now than decades ago,” said Dr. Kelly Cairns, VP of Medical Excellence and Education at Thrive Pet Healthcare. “We believe in the power of mentorship throughout the professional journey. Therefore, we’re thrilled to support Viticus Group Boot Camp and help jump start the clinical experience for new GP veterinarians by giving them the tools they need to thrive and progress in their careers.”

The program honors the legacy of longtime supporter and past WVC Annual Conference honoree, Dr. Jack Walther. Known as the “veterinarian’s veterinarian,” Walther’s work in the industry inspired young veterinarians and veterinary technicians through mentorship and his teachings at the University of Nevada, Reno. He also served at the state and national level, as president of the Nevada State Veterinary Association; chairman of the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Examiners; director of the Western Veterinary Conference (WVC), and chairman of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Political Action Committee, among many roles.
